About Dr. Chang

Dr. Andrew Chang is a Harvard-trained physician, social entrepreneur, and nationally recognized leader advancing mental health equity for immigrant and minority communities. They are the Founder and CEO of Nunchi Health, a nonprofit organization delivering culturally grounded, peer-led mental health programs to young people across more than 30 countries.

Born in Taipei and raised in Shanghai, Dr. Chang earned their BA and MD from Harvard University and graduated top of their class from Tsinghua University’s School of Economics and Management. During medical school, they were elected Class Marshal and published widely on intergenerational trauma, minority stress, and cross-cultural psychiatry in leading journals including Nature Mental Health, The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health, and Pediatrics.

A Schwarzman Scholar and Obama Leader, Dr. Chang’s innovative work has been recognized by the American Psychiatric Association, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Tow Foundation, and the .ORG Impact Awards. Prior to founding Nunchi Health, they led multiple nonprofit organizations and worked across Peru, Taiwan, and rural Mexico in education and community health.

Under their leadership, Nunchi Health has raised over $1 million to advance culturally responsive, community-based mental health care for immigrant and minority young people. In their role as the founder and CEO, they led over 400 young leaders to deliver free mental health support to over 27,000 students worldwide, building scalable systems of culturally responsive care.

Dr. Chang’s work sits at the intersection of medicine, culture, and systems change. They are committed to designing mental health ecosystems that reflect the strength, dignity, and lived experiences of underserved communities.
